It’s been a busy off-season for several Orioles. Three players who were with the Orioles last season participated in winter ball: Luis Ayala, Ryan Flaherty and Pedro Strop.

Manager Buck Showalter wanted Flaherty to play winter ball for the first time to get some additional at-bats, but he batted just .209 in 13 games for Escogido of the Dominican League, according to statistics provided by the Orioles.

Flaherty was joined by Strop, who was 1-0 with a 2.79 ERA and four saves in eight games.

Ayala had his troubles for Obregon in the Mexican League. He was 1-2 with a 4.61 ERA in 10 games.

You’ll be able to ask Ayala, Flaherty and Strop about their winter league exploits at the Jan. 19 FanFest.

The best performance came from Alexi Casilla, who was acquired from Minnesota. Casilla batted .289 in 37 games with Gigantes of the Dominican League.

Jose Gil, a non-roster catcher batted .308 in 34 games in the Venezuelan Winter League. Zelous Wheeler, who played third base for Bowie last season, hit .328 in 63 games for Los Mochis, and Michael Ohlman, a young catcher hit .328 in 31 games for Perth in the Australian Baseball League. Allan de San Miguel, a non-roster catcher, hit .320 for the same team.
