SARASOTA, Fla. – Orioles designated hitter Wilson Betemit suffered a sprained right knee ligament injury in the fifth inning of Monday’s game with the Boston Red Sox. The Orioles say he will be reevaluated on Tuesday.

Betemit was on first and running on a pitch to Manny Machado. Machado flied to left field and was trying to get back to first when he collapsed near second base.

Helped by teammates, trainers and manager Buck Showalter, Betemit was carted off the field and put into a leg brace when he reached the clubhouse. Betemit needed assistance to make it into the clubhouse.

Betemit had a three-run home run and a sacrifice fly.
