ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – When Wilson Betemit injured his right knee 10 days ago, it looked horrible. After arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, things are looking up for Betemit. The surgery was performed by team orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens on Wednesday.
“There was nothing from the procedure which will set back his recovery time,” manager Buck Showalter said. “Everything they were hoping to find, they found.”
When Betemit suffered a sprain of his posterior cruciate ligament, his recovery time was estimated at six-to-eight weeks. Showalter has heard nothing to change that prognosis.
“We just know that we’re not going to be thinking about him before that time period,” Showalter said.
Steve Johnson, who’s on the 15-day disabled list with a back injury, threw long toss on Wednesday, and he’s doing well.
Dylan Bundy was placed on the 7-day disabled list. His right elbow has flared up, and the Orioles said on Monday he had been shut down. Showalter said he’s resumed throwing and he feels strong.
