TONIGHT’S GAME:

Baltimore Orioles (67-58) vs. Tampa Bay Rays (72-52), Oriole Park, 7:05 p.m.

STARTING PITCHERS:

Wei-Yin Chen (6-6, 3.23) vs. Jeremy Hellickson (10-6, 4.91)

KEYS TO THE GAME:

After two losses to Tampa Bay, the Orioles have lost six of eight and must start winning or else fall out of contention for a playoff spot.

Nate McLouth is 0-for-17, and his .268 average is his lowest in four months. As the usual leadoff hitter against right-handers, he’s going to have to get in gear.

NEWS AND NOTES:

Chen has lost three straight starts. Last year, he lost four consecutive decisions to close the year.

Hellickson is 8-3 with a 3.09 ERA against the Orioles. In his last start in Baltimore, Hellickson allowed eight runs in 7 2/3 innings in a 12-10 Orioles loss.

The Orioles trail the season series 9-5 and must win the remaining five games with Tampa Bay to win the season series.

Nick Markakis’ 28 games without an extra-base hit is the second longest in the American League this year. Seattle’s Brendan Ryan had no extra-base hits in his first 32 games this season.
