Would the Orioles be interested in Matt Lindstrom?
In late August, the Orioles traded Lindstrom to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Joe Saunders and a player to be named later. The teams couldn’t agree on a player, and Baltimore sent along cash instead. Lindstrom and Jason Hammel were acquired from Colorado for Jeremy Guthrie.
Saunders is set to become a free agent though the Orioles have significant interest in him. Lindstrom’s $4 million option was declined by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, and he was bought out for $200,000.
Lindstrom was extremely effective in his first month in Baltimore before tearing a ligament in the middle finger of his right hand and missing seven weeks.
He was 1-0 with a 2.72 ERA in 34 games with the Orioles and had no record with a 2.53 ERA in 12 games with Arizona.
Lindstrom allowed just two home runs in 36 innings for the Orioles, and in his career has averaged just three a season. With a reasonable salary, he could be an interesting addition to the bullpen, and he wouldn’t have to learn his new teammates.
