The Orioles have a happy surprise in their starting lineup today. Two days after sustaining a frightening injury to his right knee, Chris Davis is back in his accustomed spot at first base.
Davis left Friday night’s game with the Los Angeles Angels when he hurt the knee running out a ground ball in the fifth inning. He was scheduled for a Saturday morning MRI, and no serious injury was found though he didn’t play.
After one day off, Davis is back. He asked manager Buck Showalter to play on Saturday, and while it might have been tempting to rest April’s American League Player of the Month and give him three days off with Monday’s scheduled off day, he’s back in there.
Steve Pearce played first base in Davis’ place and had three hits including the eventual game-winning RBI in the 10th.
