Chris Davis’s wonderful season did not translate into a Most Valuable Player Award. Davis, who set an Orioles single season home run record with 53, finished third in the voting for AL MVP behind Miguel Cabrera and Mike Trout.
Cabrera won it for the second straight year. Trout finished second once again.
The Detroit slugger had 23 first place votes. Trout had five. Davis and Oakland third baseman Josh Donaldson received one each.
Davis was named on all 30 ballots and he got four second place votes, 11 third place and 12 fourth place votes. He also got one fifth and a seventh place vote.
Manny Machado finished ninth. He was named on 22 ballots. Adam Jones, who finished sixth last year, got a fifth and eighth place vote in finishing 13th.
