BALTIMORE – Kevin Gausman’s season may not be over. Gausman is short of the number of innings the Orioles have projected for him, and could be sent to the Instructional League in Sarasota, Fla. and then to the Arizona Fall League.
Gausman has worked 128 1/3 innings—82 with Norfolk and Bowie and 46 1/3 with the Orioles.
“We’re still thinking about. We haven’t decided yet,” manager Buck Showalter said.
While he could get a few starts in the AFL, Gausman isn’t likely to start on Sunday. Chris Tillman remains on track to start in the season’s final game.
Showalter says that Gausman has had some new experiences this season. It’s been his first full professional season, and he’s new to a five-man rotation. He’s also been moved between the bullpen and starting rotation.
The Orioles aren’t committing to Gausman in the starting rotation next season.
“I hope he’s competing. He competed. A lot of things have to shake out. I actually hope we’re so good he can’t make it,” Showalter said.
