Miguel Gonzalez told reporters in Arlington, Tex. that he felt much better today, and he hoped to avoid the disabled list. Gonzalez had an MRI on Wednesday because his right side hurt, and the Orioles feared an oblique strain.

If Gonzalez goes on the DL, Kevin Gausman will start on Saturday. He’ll be on hand Friday ready to be activated for a possible Saturday start.

Bud Norris tweeted a photo of his forearm, and baseball stitches are clear there. He’ll move his workday back a day until Saturday, and says he’ll be ready to pitch against Boston on Monday. Norris was hit in the fifth inning by Texas’ Mitch Moreland and left the game.

Tommy Hunter threw a simulated game on Thursday and will go to Delmarva to pitch two innings on Saturday. He’ll be ready to return from his groin injury after that.

Matt Wieters’ throwing session went well, manager Buck Showalter told reporters.

Wei-Yin Chen will start on Friday as the Orioles open a three-game series with Oakland. Ubaldo Jimenez is Sunday’s starters. The Athletics have scheduled Tommy Milone, Sonny Gray and Scott Kazmir.
