BOSTON –- Jason Hammel worked into the third inning in his rehab assignment at Bowie on Thursday night.

Hammel worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings against Binghamton. He allowed three hits, struck out three, didn’t walk a batter and hit two.

He threw 46 pitches, 31 for strikes.

Hammel has spent a month on the disabled list with a right forearm injury.

Before Thursday’s game at Fenway Park, manager Buck Showalter said he anticipated that Hammel would have another rehab assignment. It could come on Sunday for Bowie “unless there’s an immediate need in the bullpen,” Showalter said.

Hammel could return when the rosters expand on Sunday.

“I’m hoping he gets a good solid two, three innings in. I’m hoping he has to throw in the bullpen after he gets through. I’m going to be surprised if he doesn’t do real well physically. We took some extra time with him,” Showalter said.

NOTES: Showalter said the Orioles haven’t decided what to do with Tsuyoshi Wada when Norfolk’s season ends. He could join the Orioles or go to Sarasota, Fla. and be ready in case he’s needed in Baltimore.
