Many of the Orioles fans who have fantasized that someday soon their favorite team will be in a World Series picture this year’s team playing.

It won’t happen.

Two years ago, the San Francisco Giants won the World Series. While most of their pitchers this time around were there in 2010, just three position players were. Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval played then as did Aubrey Huff, but Huff has been reduced to a pinch-hitter.

The Tigers were in the World Series six years ago, but their team has been totally re-invented. Only Justin Verlander, Omar Infante and Ramon Santiago remain from that team, and Santiago hasn’t played in the postseason.

Will Adam Jones, Matt Wieters, Manny Machado, Wei-Yin Chen, J.J. Hardy, Nick Markakis and Jason Hammel all play together in a World Series?

An Orioles fan can only hope.
