BALTIMORE – Ubaldo Jimenez will go on the disabled list on Sunday with a sprained right ankle. Jimenez said he injured the ankle by misstepping in a parking lot.

Jimenez, who is 3-8 with a 4.52 ERA, said he didn’t think the injury would take long to heal.

“It can happen to any regular person, and it probably wouldn’t be a big thing, but I’m a pitcher and I have to use my foot. Especially that foot,” Jimenez said.

For now, Jimenez is hoping to pitch on July 23 in Anaheim after the All-Star break ends. Manager Buck Showalter hasn’t decided if Jimenez will need a rehab start.

He hurt his ankle in Sept. 2012, ending his season with Cleveland prematurely, but he said it wasn’t the same kind of injury.

"It's crazy. I've never been on the DL because of my arm, elbow or anything like that. Only been on the DL for small injuries like my ankle or finger. Could happen to anyone,” Jimenez said.

For most of the first half, Jimenez has struggled, and he’s trying to live up to the four-year, $50 million contract the Orioles gave him in February.

“I always have a good second half, and this one is no different,” Jimenez said.
