BALTIMORE – Manny Machado left Monday night’s Orioles game with the New York Yankees with a sprained right knee.
Machado swung at a pitch from the Yankees’ Chris Capuano in the third inning, aand his bat shattered. As the ball reached shortstop, Machado collapsed, writhing, holding his right knee.
Trainer Richie Bancells and manager Buck Showalter ran to Machado’s aid and helped him off the field.
The Orioles said he will be reevaluated on Tuesday.
Machado missed the first month of the season recuperating from surgery on his left knee. He hurt the left knee in Tampa Bay on Sept. 23 and had surgery in October.
Chris Davis replaced Machado at third base.
