NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Buck Showalter often drops news during his pre-game news sessions. It was no different during his session with both the local and national news media at the Winter Meetings.
Showalter was asked an innocent question about Manny Machado during his Tuesday session with reporters.
“Manny had a little scare with, I believe it was meningitis, but he’s over it,” Showalter said.
“I talked to him a couple times, and he’s doing well and doing a full workout.”
The 20-year-old Machado came to the Orioles on Aug. 9 and played third base for the rest of the season. Machado batted .262 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs.
“He’s going to go in [to spring training] and get an opportunity to be our third baseman potentially, but he’s got to earn it. We’ve got some other options there,” Showalter said.
