Here’s a little reminder of what Orioles fans want to see Manny Machado able to do again as he recovers from surgery to a ruptured ligament in his left knee.

On Tuesday, the O’s third baseman won one of Major League Baseball’s Greatness in Baseball Yearly Awards, known as a GIBBY, for the Play of the Year. Surely you remember it: Machado made a backhanded stop that took him into foul territory at Yankee Stadium and he unloaded a throw from approximately the Major Deegan Expressway to nail the Yankees’ Luis Cruz at first base. Watch it here.

The GIBBY Awards were voted on by a combination of media, fans and MLB alumni. Presumably, some of those alumni had once been thrown out by another Orioles third baseman who used to make such otherworldly plays. Machado deserved a lot of votes simply for reminding everyone of Brooks Robinson.

The Orioles are hoping Machado can make it back by the start of the season. He injured his knee while landing awkwardly on first base on Sept. 23 at Tampa Bay.
