The Orioles are hoping for good news about Manny Machado’s surgically repaired left knee on Friday. Machado is scheduled to see Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who performed the surgery in Los Angeles in October.

So far, the buzz around Machado has been positive, and he’s scheduled to appear at FanFest on Saturday at the Baltimore Convention Center. Vouchers for his and all other autograph sessions are sold out, but he’ll appear at a fielding forum along with Matt Wieters and coaches Bobby Dickerson and John Russell at 3 p.m.

Machado and Wieters will appear at a children’s only press conference at 12:30 p.m.

Spring training begins on Feb. 13, and if Machado is to be ready for Opening Day on Mar. 31 against Boston, he’ll have to play in spring games about two weeks before the season begins.

In 2012, the Orioles used a similar approach on Nick Markakis, keeping him out of games until about two weeks remained in spring training, and he was ready to begin the season.

Dan Duquette and Buck Showalter will conduct a question and answer session for season ticket holders at 10:30 a.m. Showalter will appear with his coaches in a session open to the general public at noon. Duquette will be available at 4:30 p.m. in a session including scouts and minor league director Brian Graham.
