The Orioles acquired left-handed starter Joe Saunders from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday for reliever Matt Lindstrom and cash considerations. The 31-year-old Saunders is 6-10 with a 4.22 ERA in 21 starts for the Diamondbacks this season. He could start either Tuesday or Wednesday against Chicago.Saunders will probably report on Monday. Hes 75-62 with a 4.17 ERA in 182 starts with the Los Angeles Angels and Arizona.Hes got some American League experience. Hell start for us at some point when talk to him and figure out the best fit for him and us, manager Buck Showalter said. This came together pretty quickly. We had a lot of competition. There were a lot of clubs interested in him.Lindstrom was 1-0 with a 2.72 ERA in 34 games. He was acquired in February from Colorado along with Jason Hammel for Jeremy Guthrie.Matt did a good job here. It was a tough conversation. I feel good hes going to a place that kind of in the same situation were in, Showalter said. Arizona is in third place in the NL West, seven games behind first place San Francisco. He should feel real good that he was coveted enough to get us something that helped us with the depth that we needed to compete, Showalter said.Jake Arrieta was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to replace Lindstrom on the roster. Arrieta may be with the Orioles only for Sundays game. We brought him just in case the trade happened today, Showalter said.Arrieta is 3-4 with a 4.91 ERA in Norfolk. He was 3-9 with a 6.13 ERA with the Orioles before being sent down on July 5.
