Orioles season on the line vs. the Rays
After using 10 pitchers in Friday’s 18-inning loss, the Orioles added two more.
Mike Belfiore and Zach Britton were both added to the roster for Saturday’s game against Tampa Bay.
Fortunately for the Orioles, both were about 45 minutes away at the Orioles’ spring training complex at Sarasota, Fla.
Belfiore was twice called up this season, including once for a game at Tampa Bay, but didn’t pitch either time. He was 2-1 with a 3.18 ERA at Norfolk.
After allowing four runs on six hits in 2 1/3 innings at Cleveland on Sept. 4, Britton was sent back down. In seven starts with the Orioles this season, Britton was 2-2 with a 5.45 ERA. At Norfolk, Britton was 6-5 with a 4.27 ERA.
The Orioles have 18 pitchers on their 36-man roster.
Of the four players on the 40-man roster who aren’t with the team, two are on the disabled list (pitchers Eric Beaulac and Dylan Bundy). The other two available are Henry Urrutia, who’s in the Instructional League and Tsuyoshi Wada, who might pitch next weekend if the Orioles are eliminated from playoff consideration.
