BRADENTON, Fla. – The Orioles’ 40-man roster is now under contract. On Friday, the team announced it had agreed on one-year contracts with 17 players who are not eligible for arbitration.
The biggest names are Jake Arrieta, Zach Britton, Miguel Gonzalez, Steve Johnson, Manny Machado, Pedro Strop and Chris Tillman. Others who agreed are pitchers Mike Belfiore, Zach Clark and T.J. McFarland, catcher Luis Exposito, infielders Ryan Flaherty, Yamaico Navarro, Jonathan Schoop and Danny Valencia and outfielders Xavier Avery and L.J. Hoes.
Last year, the club renewed Matt Wieters’ contract, signing him for a figure less than he was originally offered. This year, there were no renewals, and on Friday afternoon before many of the 17 departed for Bradenton was a reminder taped to their chairs telling them to sign their contract before getting on the team bus.
