The Orioles claimed right-handed pitcher Liam Hendriks on waivers from the Chicago Cubs on Monday.

Hendriks will turn 25 just before spring training begins, and should he pitch for the Orioles, will be the third Australian-born pitcher for the team.

He is 2-13 with a 6.06 ERA in 30 games, 28 of them starts for Minnesota, from 2011-13.

The Orioles have seen quite a bit of Hendriks in spring training because they play the Twins often. Hendriks allowed four runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings in his only start against them, last Apr. 5 at Oriole Park. It was the fourth game of the season.

Hendriks was 1-3 with a 6.85 ERA in 10 games last season. He was with the Cubs just 10 days after being claimed on waivers from the Twins on Dec. 13.

The Orioles now have 39 players on their 40-man roster.

NOTES: The Minnesota Twins have appointed Sam Perlozzo as their minor league infield coordinator. Perlozzo was with the Orioles from 1996-2007 as third base and bench coach, and managed the team from Aug. 2005-June 2007. The news was first reported by ESPN.com.

-The other two Australians to pitch for the Orioles were John Stephens (2002) and Damian Moss (2003).
