SARASOTA, Fla. –- The Orioles have claimed outfielder Jimmy Paredes on waivers from the Miami Marlins.
The 25-year-old Paredes spent three years with the Houston Astros and has a lifetime average of .234.
Paredes, a switch-hitter has played right and left field, second and third base. Last year in 48 games with the Astros, Paredes batted .192 with a home run and 10 RBIs.
With Paredes’ addition, the Orioles now have a full 40-man roster. When Suk-min Yoon is added, a player will have to be dropped.
NOTES: Miguel Gonzalez ended his workout when he began suffering from back spasms, manager Buck Showalter said.
-Lefthanded pitcher Kelvin De La Cruz has been hampered with a sore left hamstring for about a month, he said. De La Cruz said that the injury is getting better, and he should be able to throw from a mound in two days.
-Catcher Johnny Monell and pitcher Alfredo Aceves have still been unable to report. Showalter expects both of them on Sunday.
