Today was clean out your locker day for the Orioles. With the Baltimore Marathon clogging streets near Oriole Park, the Orioles were advised to clean out their belongings later on Saturday afternoon.
By then, the marathon runners were gone. By the time the media was allowed in the clubhouse, only a handful of players, the true marathon men, were around.
Wei-Yin Chen and his translator, Tim Lin were there. So were Troy Patton and Lew Ford. Matt Wieters and Darren O’Day came by later.
Some of the players would come by later. Others presumably cleaned their belongings out when the team arrived home early Saturday morning.
Only Steve Johnson and Nick Markakis live in the area full-time. Brian Roberts splits time between Baltimore and Sarasota, Fla. Most of the others quickly leave the area.
Not Dan Duquette and Buck Showalter. Both met with the press on Saturday to talk about the season.
Showalter’s off-season plans include a partial right knee replacement on Wednesday. He had the left one replaced two years ago. Showalter will stay around his Baltimore County home for a few weeks to work on planning for next season.
He’ll presumably be around to collect the AL Manager of the Year Award next month.
What he won’t do is be glued to the television for the playoffs. He might occasionally tune in, but won’t watch every pitch.
He was thinking about attending the Cowboys-Ravens game on Sunday, helping plan his daughter’s wedding this winter and contemplating next season.
