PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Orioles made four cuts after Wednesday afternoon’s game with Boston.

They optioned right-handed pitcher Steve Johnson and outfielder Henry Urrutia to Triple-A Norfolk and reassigned infielder Alexi Casilla and outfielder Quintin Berry to minor league camp.

The Orioles have 36 players remaining in camp, but Edgmer Escalona, Manny Machado and Francisco Peguero will start the season on the disabled list. Rule 5 draft pick Michael Almanzar may join them with a left knee injury. Johan Santana will be placed on the minor league disabled list, and Troy Patton will start the season on the suspended list.

Nolan Reimold, who was scratched from Wednesday night’s lineup, could also begin the season on the disabled list.

It’s possible that only four players may have to be cut to reach the 25-man roster. Alfredo Aceves, Kevin Gausman, T.J. McFarland and Evan Meek are in the mix for the final bullpen spot. Jonathan Schoop and Jemile Weeks are competing for an infield position. Both Steve Pearce and Delmon Young could make the club if Reimold isn’t on the active roster.
