SARASOTA, Fla. – A little more than an hour after they started, the Orioles’ first two intrasquad games ended without incident on Wednesday morning.

There were a few highlights. Chris Davis hit a long, opposite field home run to left field off Tommy Hunter. Later, he tried to bunt. Davis said there are so many times teams try an overshift that he might want to utilize the bunt during the season.

Nate McLouth hit a hard double off the center field wall and Brian Roberts a sharp single up the middle.

Jair Jurrjens was a little shaky in his brief outing, but Buck Showalter had little to say about him afterward.

Nick Markakis had the same test done for acid reflux that Manny Machado and Zach Braddock had earlier this week. He didn’t play in the intrasquad game because of that, and now heads to Baltimore for a family funeral. He’s expected back on Friday.

Nolan Reimold, who’s recovering from off-season neck surgery, won’t play in Thursday’s intrasquad game. Showalter is taking it slowly with him. Thursday’s game will be played at Ed Smith Stadium, the Orioles’ first venture onto that field.

This was the shortest day of camp. After the intrasquad games, the team dressed quickly and went to a local golf course for a charity tournament sponsored by Jim Johnson.
