Imagine being 24-years-old and winning $8.5 million dollars. Imagine winning that money with the distinction as the best in the world at what you do.

For Laurel, MD native and Orioles fan Greg Merson, that all became reality on Tuesday night after a 12-hour battle with second place winner Jesse Sylvia. Sylvia, 21, takes home $5 million as the runner up.

Both young kids are nice stories, but how did we know Merson was an O’s fan? Well he was wearing an Orioles jersey of course.

Merson’s run for the money caught the attention of several Baltimore celebrities, including Jones himself.

Jones Tweeted on Monday night his support for the poker player:

Michael Phelps also pledged his support on Twitter:

Win a fortune and get shoutouts from your favorite athletes? Not bad a bad week for Mr. Merson.
