The Orioles are still hopeful that the All-Star Game will be coming to Baltimore in 2016.

Last year, the Orioles applied to Major League Baseball to host the game for the first time since 1993, which by all accounts was a rousing success.

The Orioles, who declined comment on the process, don’t seem to have much competition from their American League counterparts.

Minneapolis’ Target Field will be the site of the 2014 game. Tampa Bay’s Tropicana Field and the new Yankee Stadium are the only current AL parks never to host the All-Star Game.

The Rays would like to play somewhere else in the Tampa Bay area, and it’s unlikely that MLB would award them a game. The Yankees hosted the game in 2008, and with the Mets’ CitiField this year’s site, it’s unlikely that there would be three All-Star Games in New York in eight years.

Oakland and Toronto hosted the game in 1987 and 1991, but the Athletics are also looking for a new home, and they’re unlikely to land the game.

It looks as if the Orioles’ main competition could come from the Blue Jays, though there’s no word that Toronto has applied nor have there been as many improvements to the Rogers Centre as there have been to Oriole Park.

Cincinnati will be awarded the 2015 All-Star Game today, and since baseball likes to alternate leagues for All-Star Game venues,  it’s possible that a year from now, word will come that the All-Stars will return to the Inner Harbor in 2016.
