Brian Roberts healthy and ready to be a leader

SARASOTA, Fla. – The workout days are over. Now the Orioles play for not-so real. On Saturday, it’s the first of five weeks of exhibition games. The Minnesota Twins come to Ed Smith Stadium, and manager Buck Showalter will throw a pitcher an inning.

Zach Britton will start followed by Jake Arrieta, Tommy Hunter, Steve Johnson, Dylan Bundy, T.J. McFarland, Todd Redmond, Zach Clark and Adam Russell. Kevin Correia will start for the Twins.

On Sunday, the Orioles play Toronto at Dunedin with Jair Jurrjens starting. Troy Patton, Mike Belfiore, Kevin Gausman, Daniel Schlereth, Mike Wright and Eduardo Rodriguez will pitch. Showalter will also use a pitcher or two from minor league camp.

Brian Roberts will play on Saturday, but not Sunday. Roberts will change from uniform into tuxedo quickly since he’s attending a friend’s wedding on Saturday night.

Showalter is considering moving Adam Jones higher up in the batting order to get some additional at-bats in advance of the World Baseball Classic.

-Catcher Allan de San Miguel left the Orioles to join Australia’s WBC team.

-Nick Markakis returned to the club after missing two days for a family funeral.

-The Orioles will honor Earl Weaver with a jersey patch this season. They’ll wear it starting Saturday.
