In order to make room for Wednesday night’s starting pitcher, Scott Feldman, the Orioles optioned Danny Valencia to Norfolk.

Valencia, who was in an 0-for-13 slump, never played the field in 21 games with the Orioles. On June 16, when he had his last hits, Valencia was batting .292. He goes back to the Tides with a .230 average, four home runs and eight RBIs.

With Nolan Reimold returning from the disabled list, Valencia was supplanted as the right-handed designated hitter. Reimold also plays left field while Valencia’s listed position is third base, which is Manny Machado’s.

In 40 games at Norfolk, Valencia was batting .306 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs.

NOTES: The Sept. 7 game against Chicago at Oriole Park is now a 1:05 p.m. start because it will be shown on FOX.

-Norfolk pitcher Jairo Asencio and outfielder Jason Pridie have been named to the International League All-Star team. Trainer Mark Shires has also been honored.

-Jon Rauch opted out of his Norfolk contract. Rauch was 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA in 10 games with the Tides.
