If you think the Orioles haven’t done much this off-season, you are correct. However, they’re way ahead of last year.

Dan Duquette was hired in early November. The Ravens were preparing for a Sunday night game in Pittsburgh.

In his first few weeks, there wasn’t much done. Manager Buck Showalter had two vacancies on his coaching staff, and those weren’t filled until the Winter Meetings.

Next year’s coaching staff looks like it will be the same as this year’s. An announcement should be coming along momentarily.

No huge trades like the Marlins-Blue Jays, but that’s not Duquette’s style, and other than Torii Hunter signing with Detroit, nothing big is yet happening in the free agent market.

The Winter Meetings start in two weeks. After a short holiday week, the market should start getting serious.

The Orioles did acquire another candidate for second base, Alexi Casilla, earlier this month. They now have four contenders for the job: Brian Roberts, Robert Andino, Ryan Flaherty and Casilla.

Maybe not much so far in the off-season for the Orioles, but think how far they’ve come inn a year.
