SARASOTA, Fla. – Six weeks from today, the Orioles open the season in Tampa Bay. It’s been a quiet first week of spring training.

On Wednesday, the team will play two three-inning intrasquad games before heading to a charity golf tournament run by Jim Johnson. They’ll play another game on Thursday.

Steve Johnson, Zach Clark and Mike Wright will pitch for one team against Todd Redmond, Dylan Bundy and Todd McFarland in one game. In the other game, Tommy Hunter, Zach Britton and Adam Russell will face Jake Arrieta, Brian Matusz and Jair Jurrjens.

On Thursday, Mark Hendrickson, Troy Patton, Daniel Schlereth and Eduardo Rodriguez face Chris Tillman, Pedro Strop, Daniel McCutchen, Mike Belfiore and Kevin Gausman.

Saturday, the Orioles open the long exhibition season with a game against Minnesota at 1:05 p.m. at Ed Smith Stadium.

There were two injuries sustained during Tuesday’s workout. Catcher Luis Martinez suffered a strained oblique muscle and first baseman-outfield Conor Jackson a lower back strain. Both said their injuries weren’t serious.

Nick Markakis will leave the team to attend a family funeral. He’s scheduled to be gone for two days.
