NEW YORK – The Orioles needed a long reliever for Saturday, and they’ve recalled Brad Brach from Norfolk. About 90 minutes after Friday night’s loss, the Orioles optioned Kevin Gausman to the Tides.
Gausman can be recalled next Friday to start one of the games of the Orioles’ split doubleheader with Tampa Bay.
Brach has been with the Orioles for two stints earlier this season. He has a 5.40 ERA in 10 games.
Gausman was penciled in to start on Wednesday, but once T.J. McFarland was needed on Friday, the Orioles felt they needed a long reliever.
Brach is 3-1 with a 3.47 ERA in 17 games with Norfolk. He has 43 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings.
