Orioles send Tillman to start big series against Yankees
September 9, 2013, 11:45 am

TONIGHT’S GAME:

Baltimore Orioles (76-66) vs. New York Yankees (76-67), Oriole Park, 7:05 p.m.

STARTING PITCHERS:

Chris Tillman (15-5, 3.71) vs. CC Sabathia (13-11, 3.86)

KEYS TO THE GAME:

After winning 11 of 13 starts, Tillman has won only one of his last six. He must win a few down the stretch.

The Orioles can win the season series against the Yankees for the first time since 1997 if they split the four-game series. They probably need to do better than that.

NEWS AND NOTES:

The Orioles begin play tied with Cleveland. Both are two games behind Tampa Bay for the second Wild Card spot. The Indians play Kansas City. The Rays are idle.

All of the Orioles final 20 games are against AL East teams. They’re 27-29 against the East.

Chicago’s Adam Dunn hit his second career home run onto Eutaw Street on Sunday. There have been nine home runs there this season, tied for the most in history.
