BOSTON – Orioles designated hitters are a sorry 1-for-26 entering Thursday night’s game. Manager Buck Showalter is hoping things change with Nick Markakis.

Markakis is 10 for his last 22, and Showalter is starting Chris Dickerson, whose contract was purchased on Wednesday in right field.

Nolan Reimold (1-for-13) has been the DH four times, Steve Pearce (0-for-10) three times, and Ryan Flaherty (0-for-3) once. The Orioles have the lowest collective DH average and are the only team without an extra-base hit from their DH.

“We’re going to try to move that around like we’ve talked about all along,” Showalter said.

It’s the fifth time in his career Markakis has been the DH.

NOTES: Brian Roberts would like to return when he’s eligible on Apr. 20, but Showalter says that it’s unlikely. Roberts is out with a strained right hamstring. … Chris Tillman, tonight’s starting pitcher and Miguel Gonzalez, were in a minor accident when the taxi they were in was rearended on the way here. … Showalter allowed his starting pitchers to watch Wednesday night’s game from the clubhouse because of the nasty weather.
