A week from now, the Orioles will have to tender contracts to all their eligible players. It now appears that they will offer contracts to all nine who are eligible for arbitration.
Chris Davis, Tommy Hunter, Jim Johnson, Brian Matusz, Bud Norris, Troy Patton, Steve Pearce, Nolan Reimold and Matt Wieters will all be tendered according to published reports.
Most of those were assured of contracts, but Patton whose performance was shaky at times a year ago and Reimold, who has been injured most of the past two seasons, were question marks.
In late September, Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette indicated that Johnson would be tendered despite some speculation he wouldn’t. The Orioles may pay Johnson in excess of $8 million after two seasons of 101 saves.
The Orioles have indicated that they would like to engage in extension talks with Davis and Wieters. They are not expected to discuss a long-term contract with Johnson.
