BALTIMORE – The Orioles bullpen, so superb last year, has been spottier in 2013. One of the main reasons has been Troy Patton. Last year, Patton allowed 15 earned runs in 54 games. This year, he’s already given up 13 in 20 games.
Patton says the bullpen can be just as good this year as it was in 2012.
“It’s not any more pressure than we had last year. It’s the same situations that we were able to perform in last year,” Patton said.
“I don’t think it’s really pressure. I think it’s when we do put up runs enough for us to win, and we don’t do our job, we obviously feel the disappointment that it could have been a team win. That’s been happening more this year than last year.”
Patton is 1-0 with a 5.16 ERA.
“I’m not happy with my performance. I don’t think anybody in my position would be nor should they be,” Patton said.
“It’s not through any lack of effort. The effort’s been there. The desire to do well has been there. I just haven’t executed certain pitches. I’ve let things snowball when I was able to minimize damage in the past.”
