The Orioles likely would have preferred that the Yankees didn’t get rained out on Sunday and CC Sabathia had pitched as scheduled. But, instead, they get the New York ace in the opener of a three-game series Monday at Camden Yards.

In his previous outing against the O’s, on April 12, Sabathia went eight strong innings, giving up eight hits and one earned run and striking out nine in a 5-2 Yanks win. Overall, he’s 4-3 with a 3.19 ERA. In seven of his nine starts, he’s lasted at least six innings; he’s gone seven or more five times. In all but one start, he’s thrown more than 100 pitches.

Sabathia is coming off kind of an odd outing, however. On Tuesday against the Mariners, he went 6 1/3 innings and gave up 10 hits while also striking out 10. Sabathia yielded just two earned runs and ended up with a no-decision.

In any case, he said his laid-back demeanor left him relaxed on Sunday while waiting to see whether he would pitch.

"I'm not very intense before I pitch, so either way, I wasn't really worried about it," he said.
