Pitchers and catchers report to spring training next month, but Joe Saunders still doesn’t know where he’ll be reporting. But if he got his preference, Saunders would be in Sarasota with the Orioles.

“First and foremost, I’d like to come back to Baltimore and do some great things in 2013,” he told The Sun’s Dan Connolly. “… I had a blast. We had a great run last year, and I’d love to try and repeat that for 2013.”

Saunders remains on the free-agent market after finishing up strong for the Orioles in 2012, joining them via an August trade. He went 3-3 with a 3.63 ERA in seven regular-season starts and then turned in two effective outings against the Rangers in the wild-card game and the Yankees in the American League Division Series.

Saunders reportedly wants a three-year contract, something the Orioles don’t want to offer.

“I’m a pretty patient kind of guy,” Saunders said. “I’ve always been that kind of guy, to really wait and see how it all plays out. … My hands are kind of tied. I pay my agent to do his job and hopefully it all works out.

“Whether it is two, three, four, five six, seven years, players can’t really control that. That’s up to the individual teams whether they go that route.”
