BALTIMORE – Wednesday was already a good day for the Orioles even before their game began.
Cleveland lost to Kansas City 6-2, and fell a half-game behind the Orioles, who trail Tampa Bay for the final playoff spot by 1 ½ games.
The Yankees are currently tied with the Indians two games behind the Rays. Kansas City is 2 ½ games behind Tampa Bay.
Manager Buck Showalter is an inveterate scoreboard watcher.
“I do some things that I don’t want to admit to,” Showalter said.
“I’m a fan of it, but if we lose, I don’t pay attention to what other teams did. We’ve just got to take care of business.”
Showalter is hoping his season doesn’t end on September 28.
“One of the toughest times for me is when the season’s over, the next day or so, when I go into my office at the ballpark. It’s incredibly sad to me. I’m hoping one time I get a chance to experience that after we’re the last team standing,” Showalter said.
“Walk through the locker room, walk around the field, and everything is quiet. Being here a lot in the offseason, snow on the field, you miss that. I miss these guys.”
