Buck Showalter has been named a finalist for the American League Manager of the Year Award.
Showalter joins Oakland’s Bob Melvin and Chicago’s Robin Ventura as finalists for the award, which will be announced on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on the MLB Network.
One of his former players, Jeremy Guthrie, tweeted his support for Showalter. “All deserving. Buck should win!!” Guthrie wrote.
Showalter has twice won the AL Manager of the Year Award.
No other Orioles are finalists for the major awards. The five Most Valuable Player finalists are Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera, Los Angeles’ Mike Trout, New York’s Robinson Cano, Texas’ Adrian Beltre and Josh Hamilton.
Adam Jones will probably get some support for MVP, but didn’t get enough to be a finalist.
Detroit’s Justin Verlander, Los Angeles’ Jered Weaver and Tampa Bay’s David Price, are AL Cy Young Award finalists.
AL Rookie of the Year finalists are the Angels’ Trout, Oakland’s Yoenis Cespedes and the Rangers’ Yu Darvish.
