BALTIMORE – Wei-Yin Chen threw off the full mound on Saturday morning in Sarasota, Fla., and he should be joining the Orioles in Detroit on Monday.

It was the first time Chen threw off a full mound since he strained his left oblique since on May 12. Manager Buck Showalter has his schedule mapped out, and he hopes that he’ll be ready to rejoin the Orioles by early next month.

Jason Hammel was out for the second straight day with a virus. He’s scheduled to pitch against the Tigers on Monday, and Showalter isn’t concerned yet that he’ll miss the start.

Showalter said that Hammel had an intravenous injection on Friday because he lost a lot of fluid. He was asked to stay home because a team doctor felt he was at the end of the contagious stage. He is expected to return to the team on Sunday.

Brian Roberts will accompany the team on its road trip to Detroit and probably Toronto. Showalter is hoping Roberts will go on a rehab assignment after the road trip. By that time, Nolan Reimold should have completed his rehab assignment, which begins Tuesday at Bowie. Both Roberts and Reimold have right hamstring injuries.
