Orioles draft pick Harvey already impressive
BALTIMORE – Danny Valencia has seven hits in 10 at-bats against Tampa Bay’s David Price. So, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the Orioles recalled him from Norfolk to face Price on Monday night.
Valencia found out he’d be coming up on Saturday and flew to Baltimore from Columbus on Sunday.
“It’s just nice obviously to be back here, to be in the lineup. I don’t know if it was a surprise or unexpected, but I hoped eventually I’d have a chance to come back up,” Valencia said.
“Hopefully, the fourth time is the charm. This is Charm City, why not?”
Valencia is batting eighth as the designated hitter.
This is his fourth stint with the Orioles this season. His last one lasted for just one day when he replaced Brian Roberts for the last day of his paternity leave.
On Aug.4, he had a double and home run and then was returned to Norfolk.
“I had a great game. Unfortunately we lost, but it was nice going back on a high note versus going back on a bad note, but you obviously never want to go back,” Valencia said.
It was Valencia’s first appearance in Baltimore since Major League Baseball said he had no role in the Biogenesis scandal. Reports surfaced last week that Valencia’s name may have been leaked by Alex Rodriguez or his inner circle. He declined comment on the report.
