Now, wouldn’t this be fun?

Yeah, we know that seeing the Orioles lumped in with seven other teams as having talked to the Mets about R.A. Dickey, according to CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman, probably means very little, but what’s the Hot Stove League about if not imagining things?

Just think how cool would it be to see Dickey throwing that baffling knuckleball while wearing an Orioles uniform. Get Matt Wieters one of those oversized catcher’s mitts to help him corral the wacky pitches.

Meanwhile, the Mets are apparently continuing  to discuss a contract extension with the Cy Young Award winner, who is scheduled to be paid $5 million in 2013, the last year of his deal. The Mets also are said to be asking for a lot in return for Dickey, 38, who had never won more than 11 games in a major-league season before breaking out in 2012 by going 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA. Heyman reports the Mets are most interested in acquiring a catcher and outfielders, so again that argues against the Orioles being a serious player.

Still, it’s nice to think about the big bats of the American League East waving helplessly at the fluttering offerings of Dickey the Oriole.
