Baltimore Orioles (14-9) vs. Oakland Athletics (13-11) 4:07 p.m. at O.Co. Coliseum)
Chris Tillman (0-1, 5.23) vs. A.J. Griffin (2-1, 4.50)
Keys to the game:
Can Tillman continue the success he had against Toronto on Monday when he allowed just one hit in the first six innings. He allowed a run in the seventh, and didn’t get a decision.
Surprisingly, Tillman has pitched just once in his career against Oakland while Griffin has never faced the Orioles.
The Orioles have two straight games in Oakland, the first time they’ve won two games in a season since 2007.
News & Notes:
The Orioles suddenly have a relatively rested bullpen. After a doubleheader last Saturday and two short starts by Jake Arrieta and Josh Stinson, both of whom are now at Norfolk, Jason Hammel and Wei-Yin Chen have gone six and eight innings the last two nights.
J.J. Hardy, who was batting just .178 after Tuesday’s game, went 1-for-5 on both Wednesday and Thursday and saw his batting average rise. On Friday night, he had two hits, his first multi-hit game, and he’s batting just .195.
