Tommy Hunter played with Josh Hamilton in Texas for four seasons. He’d love to see him come to Baltimore.
Hamilton was a hot topic of conversation at last week’s general manager’s meetings in Indian Wells, Calif. Several reports indicated the Orioles were one of the teams interested in him.
Hunter and Hamilton were together on the Rangers from 2008-11 before Chris Davis and Hunter came to Baltimore in a trade for Koji Uehara.
“Josh is an awesome person and he just wants to play baseball and spend his free time with his family. He wants to win like any competitor does and I hope he comes to Baltimore!” Hunter said in an e-mail.
In May 2012, Hamilton hit four home runs in a game at Oriole Park.
“He likes hitting in Baltimore as evidence of what he did last year. If ur asking me if I want josh as a teammate again! BOOM! Who wouldn't want 40 plus home runs, 100 plus rbis, and a just plain freak of nature on ur team. I do,” Hunter said.
If Hamilton asked Hunter about playing for the Orioles, the right-handed pitcher would gladly counsel him.
“As for advise to give him playing here? I've enjoyed my time in Baltimore and I wouldn't see why he wouldn't either!”
