BALTIMORE –- For the third time this season, Danny Valencia is with the Orioles. Valencia found out late Saturday evening that the Orioles were recalling him.

Valencia is taking the roster spot of Brian Roberts, who is finishing his third day of paternity leave. Roberts will have to be activated in time for Tuesday’s game in San Diego.

Steve Johnson was active for the first two games of Roberts’ leave, but he was optioned to Norfolk after he pitched an inning in Saturday night’s game.

“It’s always nice to be up here. It’s where everybody wants to be,” Valencia said.

He drove to Baltimore after Saturday’s game in Norfolk and arrived in Baltimore around 4 am.

Valencia, who is hitless in his last 22 at-bats with the Orioles is batting .200 with four home runs and eight RBIs.

“I think it’s all about how much consistent playing time you can get to really get into that groove. When you’re playing not too much, it’s very, very difficult, especially up here, to stay in the groove and constantly hit,” Valencia said.

He was with the Orioles from May 19-July 3 and for five days after the All-Star break.

Valencia is batting .298 with Norfolk and he’s the designated hitter for Sunday’s game.

“Let’s do it,” he said.
