BALTIMORE – With his 30-day rehab assignment at an end, Tsuyoshi Wada agreed to be optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday night.
Wada, the Japanese left-hander whose recovery from Tommy John surgery in May 2012, has not gone as quickly as he’d hoped, will have more time at Triple-A. The Orioles will reevaluate Wada after a few more starts. His next start could come on Monday.
In six starts for the Tides, Wada is 1-4 with a 8.14 ERA. Wada signed a two-year, $8.15 million contract in Dec. 2011, and has not pitched for the Orioles.
The Orioles had to get Wada’s consent for the continuing assignment. He was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list added to the 40-man roster, which is now full, and optioned.
