Tsuyoshi Wada will begin the formal part of his rehabilitation process on Thursday.

The Japanese left-hander, who underwent Tommy John surgery last May 11, pitches for Norfolk against Lehigh Valley on Thursday afternoon.

Wada has been pitching in the Orioles’ extended spring training in Sarasota, Fla., and while he’s eligible to return late this month, he could have a rehab assignment of as long as 30 days.

If the Orioles take the full 30 days, Wada, who can’t be optioned to the minor leagues, can’t pitch in Baltimore until June 15.
