With eight games to play, the Orioles are 3 ½ games behind Cleveland for the final wild-card spot.
How bleak are their chances?
According to ESPN, the Orioles have a 1.3 percent chance of making the playoffs. That sounds about right.
Tampa Bay, which leads the wild-card skirmish is given a 64.9 percent chance of playing beyond next Sunday, and the Indians, with a favorable schedule, has a 78 percent chance.
Texas, which has fallen badly in recent weeks, is given a 48 percent chance. They trail Cleveland by a half-game
New York (4.5 percent) and Kansas City (3.2 percent) don’t have much shot either.
After the Orioles’ two games at Tampa Bay, they have three with Toronto and three more against Boston.
The Rays have three each at the Yankees and Blue Jays. Following Sunday’s game with Houston, the Indians play Chicago twice and at Minnesota four times.
The Rangers and Royals play on Sunday. Then, Texas plays three with the Astros and four with the Twins. Kansas City has three at Seattle and four at Chicago.
The Yankees play the Giants on Sunday, then have three with the Rays and finish with three at Houston.
