Would Abreu fit with Orioles?

Via a tweet from CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman, we see the idea that the Orioles should give a veteran bat a shot.

Heyman’s tweet: “#orioles wouldnt be a bad fit for @BobKellyAbreu. like to see him get another year. true pro.”

It appears that Bobby Abreu doesn’t have a whole lot left for one more year — maybe for another club, but certainly not with an Orioles team that doesn’t seem to have many openings on its bench. In 219 at-bats between the Dodgers and Angels last year, he hit .242 with three homers and 24 RBIs.

Abreu, who turns 39 next month, is two years removed from his last full-time season — he hit .253 with eight homers and 60 RBIs for the Angels in 2011. And it’s going on four years since Abreu completed a run of seven straight 100-RBI seasons.

Jim Thome won’t be coming back to the Orioles, so it’s hard to believe they would want to try another once-reliable hitter far on the downside of his career.
