Would Nick Swisher be a fit in the Orioles clubhouse?
MLB Traderumors.com predicted that Swisher would sign with the Orioles this winter. Swisher, the sixth best free agent in the blog’s estimation could be a pricey addition in left field—if the Orioles want him.
Swisher was a great fit at Yankee Stadium. He’d salute the fans when they called his name during roll call at the beginning of the game. In 2011, he’d address the “Bleacher Creatures” in right field when the lineups were announced. “How ‘ya doing creatures? Nick Swisher right field, number 33.”
With the Yankees looking to reduce payroll, Swisher is an unlikely return.
At 32, Swisher still might get a four-year contract. He’s averaged 28 home runs and 90 RBIs throughout his career.
He’s known as a complainer to umpires, and in a Sports Illustrated poll of the phoniest player in baseball, trailed only Alex Rodriguez.
With the Orioles’ low-key clubhouse, could a character like Swisher mesh? That must be a concern as Dan Duquette and Buck Showalter contemplate additions.
